    ABOUT US

Hey guys!  Welcome to our wonderful page!  Best Buddies is a nonprofit organization that creates opportunities for people with IDD (intellectual and developmental disabilities).  With countless chapters across the nation and even some international ones, we advocate for the rights of people with IDD.  We pair up one student in general education, with another in the special education classes to create one-to-one friendships.  In addition to hanging out with your assigned buddy, you also have the opportunity to mingle with other buddies at the chapter meetings and events.  Best Buddies creates amazing friendships that will hopefully change your life as much as the life of your buddy.

    Meetings
    Sponsors:
    Mr. Stephen
    Esquers@sfusd.edu

    Ms. Jennifer
    nicklessj@sfusd.edu

    When: Every other Tuesday

    Where: Room S102

Hope to see you guys there!

    Commitment:
At the beginning of each school year we have a party to introduce club members to each other.  We then use common interests to make buddy pairs with one student who has a disability (buddy) and one without (peer buddy).  Buddy pairs are expected to meet up twice a month and make contact once a week (via phone, email, meeting in person, etc.).  If you can’t meet this commitment, you can still join as an associative member.  Associative members hang out with all the buddies without as much of a commitment.

SPREAD THE WORD TO END THE WORD

Best Buddies advocates for ending the derogative term “retarded.”  Every March, we spread awareness with an activity-filled week here at school!  Last year, we held an assembly and made a video to express our concerns.

You can be a part of this too!  And we hope to see you soon!
